Hire car excess
Many travellers don't realise the 'price leader' quotes obained online from rental vehicle firms do not include insurance. This is normally noticed at the time of vehicle collection, when the customer is offered the option of insurance at $20-$30 PER DAY or more, to avoid the excess charged if your vehicle is in an accident (often this excess applies even if the accident is not your fault !)
Another lesser publicised tactic is 'self insurance' by the hire car firms - that is, if you do purchase their insurance, you may be simply purchasing their promise not to charge you the huge excess, and not a formal insurance policy. If you opt out of these hugely expensive fees, and are unfortnate enough to be involved in an accident, the massive excess you are forced to pay will most likely fix the damage to the vehicle, and quite possibly leave a profit for the rental car company.
Our holiday and business insurance policies remove the worry - covering you for up to $4,000 in hire car excess fees and a further $500 for vehicle return expenses. All of this cover is included in addition to the inclusions shown below, so for LESS than the typical hire car company 'insurance', you obtain a full insurance policy, underwritten by Allianz.
TravInsure cover with hire car excess is one of those little-known gems of wisdom frequent travellers rely on. Obtain a quote for a policy now, and if you should be reserving a hire car any time in the future, revisit here and arrange your insurance policy independently, and save !
